International Exchange Lecture Meeting on Museum Studies (FY2024 Exchange Meeting of Young Scholars on Museums and Cultural Heritage)
Mr. Zhang Zhe (Zhejiang Ocean University Normal College) 《Co-existence and special aspect: Confucian temple ritual vessels and various exchange-exchange trends in East Asia》
One of the origins of museums in Japan lies in the Confucius Temple. During the Meiji era, which promoted Western-style modernization, the "Ministry of Education Exhibition," which could be called Japan's first museum exhibition, was held at the Yushima Seido in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, under the auspices of the Museum Bureau of the Ministry of Education. This was based on the fact that the Yushima Seido (a Confucius Temple and the Edo Shogunate's Shoheisaka Academy) was originally a place for Confucian rituals and also an academic institution.
For this lecture, we have invited Professor Zhang Zhe from Zhejiang Ocean University, a researcher specializing in the study of Confucian temple rituals and their ceremonial objects, from China to speak about the characteristics, transmission, and evolution of Confucian temple sacrificial objects from an East Asian perspective, based on the latest research findings.
